A comforting and flavorful Cinnamon Apple French Toast Bake layered with spiced apples and toasted bread, baked to golden perfection and topped with a sweet glaze

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices of day-old bread, cubed
  • 4 large apples, sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
  • Maple syrup and powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, toss apple slices with 1/4 cup of sugar and cinnamon. Arrange half of the bread cubes in the dish, followed by half of the apple slices. Repeat layers.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, and remaining sugar until well combined. Pour evenly over the bread and apples.
  4. Drizzle melted butter over the top and bake for 35-40 minutes until golden and puffed.
  5. Serve warm with maple syrup and dusted with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Use day-old bread for best absorption. Swedish bread or brioche work well.
  • Customize with chopped nuts or a caramel drizzle for extra flavor.
