- 6 slices of day-old bread, cubed
- 4 large apples, sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
- Maple syrup and powdered sugar for serving
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a bowl, toss apple slices with 1/4 cup of sugar and cinnamon. Arrange half of the bread cubes in the dish, followed by half of the apple slices. Repeat layers.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, and remaining sugar until well combined. Pour evenly over the bread and apples.
- Drizzle melted butter over the top and bake for 35-40 minutes until golden and puffed.
- Serve warm with maple syrup and dusted with powdered sugar.
Notes
- Use day-old bread for best absorption. Swedish bread or brioche work well.
- Customize with chopped nuts or a caramel drizzle for extra flavor.
