Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef or a mix of beef and pork
- 1/2 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (optional for added umami)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (to thicken gravy)
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Combine ground meat, seasoned breadcrumbs, beaten egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, milk, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are incorporated. Form into meatballs about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter.
- Place meatballs gently into the slow cooker. In a separate bowl, whisk together beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and soy sauce if using. Pour over the meatballs.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours until meatballs are tender and cooked through. About 30 minutes before serving, remove meatballs with a slotted spoon and set aside.
- Transfer the liquid from the slow cooker to a saucepan. Bring to a simmer and whisk in dissolved cornstarch until thickened. Reheat the meatballs briefly in the sauce before serving.
Notes
- For a leaner version, substitute ground turkey or chicken.
- Ensure to adjust cooking time if changing the protein used.
- Use fresh herbs like parsley for better flavor.
- Serve the meatballs over mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice for a complete meal.
