Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 4 large potatoes, sliced thin
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup beef broth or gravy
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the potatoes thinly and chop the onion and garlic.
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onion and garlic until translucent. Add ground beef, seasoning with salt, pepper, and paprika; cook until browned. Drain excess fat and stir in beef broth or gravy.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes. Spread the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes, then layer remaining potato slices on top. Pour any juices over the casserole. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the surface.
- Cover with foil and bake for 40-45 minutes until potatoes are tender. Remove foil and bake another 10 minutes until the cheese melts and turns golden. Broil for 2-3 minutes for extra crispiness if desired.
Notes
- For a extra flavor, add sliced bell peppers or mushrooms to the beef mixture.
- Use sweet potatoes for a healthier variation.
- Prepare the casserole in advance and refrigerate before baking.
