  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes - 1 hour 20 minutes
  • Yield: 1 loaf (about 10 slices)

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/3 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mash the bananas until smooth. Add the melted butter and stir to combine.
  2. Mix in the granulated sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until well blended.
  3. Sprinkle in the baking soda and salt, then gradually add the flour, mixing gently until just incorporated.
  4. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts, if using.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top. Bake for 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Slice and serve at room temperature or warmed.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas for maximum flavor and moisture.
  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread moist.
  • Add chocolate chips last to prevent over-thickening the batter.
  • Baking at the correct temperature ensures a moist interior with a nice crust.
