  • Total Time: 2 hours 20 minutes
  • Yield: 12 rolls

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • ½ cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • Optional: raisins or chopped nuts for filling
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk, 1 teaspoon sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix the Dough: In a large bowl, combine remaining sugar, melted butter, eggs, and salt. Add the activated yeast mixture. Gradually mix in flour until a soft, elastic dough forms. Knead for 8-10 minutes.
  3. First Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the Filling: Punch down the dough, roll into a 16×12-inch rectangle. Spread melted butter, sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Add raisins or nuts if desired. Roll tightly and cut into 12 slices.
  5. Baking: Arrange slices in a greased pan, cover, and let rise 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden.
  6. Make the Glaze: Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Drizzle over warm rolls immediately after baking.

Notes

  • Ensure milk is warm (not hot) to activate the yeast effectively.
  • If using instant yeast, skip proofing and add directly to the dry ingredients.
  • For softer rolls, cover with a damp cloth during rising periods.
  • Customize fillings with chopped nuts, dried fruits, or cream cheese for variety.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
