Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 pounds (about 5-6 medium) tart apples, peeled and sliced
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 package (14 oz) refrigerated pie crusts, softened
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice. In a separate small bowl, mix sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt; sprinkle over apples and toss to coat evenly.
- Place one pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish. Fill with apple mixture and cover with the second crust. Trim and crimp edges to seal.
- Cut a few small slits in the top crust for steam venting. Optionally, brush with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, until crust is golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith for best flavor.
- Chill the pie before baking for a flakier crust.
