Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your favorite)
- 1 cup beef broth or gravy
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or cooking oil
- Fresh herbs like parsley or thyme for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Start by peeling and slicing the potatoes into thin, even slices. Chop the onion and mince the garlic. Set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, sauté until translucent. Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and paprika if using. Cook until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a baking dish, layer sliced potatoes, then spoon cooked ground beef evenly over them. Pour beef broth or gravy over the layers. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top, and arrange remaining potato slices over the cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45-50 minutes, until potatoes are tender. Remove foil and bake for another 10 minutes to melt cheese and get a golden top.
Notes
- Use thinly sliced potatoes for even cooking and texture.
- Select a good quality shredded cheese for maximum flavor and meltability.
- Enhance flavor by adding herbs or spices like thyme, rosemary, or chili powder.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, stir a teaspoon of cornstarch into cold water and add it to the beef broth before pouring over the casserole.
