  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 4-5 tablespoons ice water
  • 6 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith or Fuji)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Add cold butter and cut in until crumbly.
  2. Gradually add ice water, mixing until dough forms. Divide in half, shape into disks, and chill for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out one disk on a floured surface and fit into a pie dish.
  4. Mix sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Pour filling into pie crust.
  5. Roll out the second disk and place over filling. Trim edges and crimp; cut small slits to vent.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown. Cool before serving.
