A savory pizza inspired by classic French onion soup, topped with caramelized onions, melted cheese, and fresh herbs on a crispy crust.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 prepared pizza dough
  • Fresh thyme leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions, sugar, and cook slowly until caramelized, about 30 minutes. Stir in balsamic vinegar and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Roll out pizza dough on a baking sheet. Spread caramelized onions evenly over the dough.
  4. Sprinkle shredded Gruyere and Parmesan cheese on top.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
  6. Garnish with fresh thyme before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a splash of red wine to the onions while caramelizing.
  • You can substitute with mozzarella if Gruyere isn’t available.
