- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 prepared pizza dough
- Fresh thyme leaves
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions, sugar, and cook slowly until caramelized, about 30 minutes. Stir in balsamic vinegar and season with salt and pepper.
- Roll out pizza dough on a baking sheet. Spread caramelized onions evenly over the dough.
- Sprinkle shredded Gruyere and Parmesan cheese on top.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh thyme before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a splash of red wine to the onions while caramelizing.
- You can substitute with mozzarella if Gruyere isn’t available.
