- 3 cups peeled, sliced tart apples (such as Granny Smith)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the apple slices in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and brown sugar. Cut in the cold butter until coarse crumbs form.
- Press the crumb mixture into the bottom of the baking dish for the crust.
- Sprinkle the reserved crumbs over the apple filling and bake for 40-45 minutes.
- Let the bars cool completely before slicing into squares.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to a week.
- For freezing, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and freeze for up to 3 months.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for added flavor.
