Crispy Bang Bang Chicken is a spicy, crunchy fried chicken dish coated in a flavorful bang bang sauce, perfect for a quick dinner or impressive appetizer with an Asian-inspired twist.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1 cup cornstarch or potato starch
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or peanut oil recommended)

Bang Bang Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2-3 tablespoons sriracha or hot chili sauce (adjust for spice level)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Optional: chopped green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Start by cutting the chicken into bite-sized pieces. Season with salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powders for added flavor.
  2. In a shallow bowl, whisk the eggs. In another bowl, combine the cornstarch and flour. Dip each piece of chicken into the egg mixture, then coat thoroughly with the flour mixture.
  3. Heat oil in a deep skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the coated chicken pieces. Fry for about 4-5 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sriracha, honey, rice vinegar, and sesame oil until smooth. Adjust spice levels by adding more sriracha if you prefer extra heat.
  5. Once the chicken is crispy and cooked through, toss the fried pieces in the spicy bang bang sauce. Serve immediately garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for a burst of flavor.

Notes

  • Use a neutral oil like vegetable or peanut oil for frying.
  • Maintain the oil temperature around 350°F (175°C) for optimal crispiness.
  • For an oven-baked version, coat chicken on a baking sheet and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway.
